My Stairlift is Broken – How do I fix it?

Here at Stechford Mobility, we know just how much a stairlift can transform your life, giving you the upper floors of your house back without worrying about how you will navigate the stairs.

We also know, then, how frustrating it can be to discover your stairlift is broken or not working. Getting your stairlift back up to full working condition is a priority, so we’ve listed a few tips to help you to approach the problem.

Don’t attempt DIY

First things first – attempting to fix the stairlift yourself could potentially void the terms of your warranty, so it’s important to make sure you won’t be infringing on your contract first before attempting to repair the stairlift.

Only tackle repairs you are confident you can carry out without potentially damaging the stairlift further. We would always recommend, however, that you contact our experts here to provide a comprehensive repair. Enlisting the help of the experts will ensure that your investment is well looked after, and repaired back to full performance.

Before calling the engineers in, however, there are a few simple checks you can make to ensure the stairlift is definitely broken, and to provide more information to your repairman. These include:

  • Fault codes – Your stairlift may have a display that presents a number or code indicating what the problem may be. Check the corresponding number in your manual to see what the fault may be – even if this is not fixable by yourself, it will be helpful information for your repair person.
  • Check the switches – It can be easy for any of the switches on your stairlift to be accidentally turned off – especially if you have curious grandchildren running around! Check that none of the switches have been moved or turned off, including the mains, wall, and lift switch.
  • Obstructions – It can also be useful to check there is nothing obstructing the stairlift’s path, which could lead you to believe it’s broken. If you find an obstruction that cannot be easily removed, call in an expert for repairs as you could risk damaging the lift further.

Here at Stechford Mobility, we offer a dedicated after sales care service to all our customers. We provide an expert stairlift repair service should you find yours to be unoperational, and can guarantee that your stairlift will be repaired to full working order in no time.
